Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Waqf Board plans to provide free homes to homeless Muslim women affected by triple talaq and nikah halala, as well as other destitute women in the community. Officials said a proposal would be placed before the board at its next meeting.
Uttarakhand Waqf Board board is planning to provide free accommodations to the homeless victims of triple talaq and destitute women of the muslim community. Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams has stated that a proposal for this will be presented in the board meeting to be held next month. Claiming it to be an epochal move of the board for the rehabilitation of women who have been victims of traditional religious practices like Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala officials stated that if the plan is grounded as intended it will come as a great relief for the destitute women of the community. Officials shared that large section of such destitute women victims in the community have lost hope for resettlement in life and are found wandering from one place and persons to another for their rehabilitation.
Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams confirmed the plans and said, “The board has prepared a plan to provide free accommodation to these victims and destitute women of the community. A proposal for this will be presented in the board meeting next month.”
Shams added that board will arrange for the homes of these women on thousands of bighas of land owned by it in every district of the state. “Illegal encroachments on the board’s land will be eradicated with the help of the administration and the police. following this victimised daughters and sisters of the community will be provided their rights of ownership on encroachment free land and buildings” said the board head.
According to Shams husbands often remarry after Triple Talaq “forcing the victim sisters and daughters of the community to endure immense pain of their miserable circumstances and wander aimlessly in for getting proper rehabilitation. Board’s new plan to offer them homes will be a great help in settling their lives.”
Shams emphasised that Dhami government aims to bring the women left destitute after triple talaq back into the mainstream of the society by providing a secure home. According to the Waqf Board Chairman “although the government has banned triple talaq by implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) still there is a substantial strength of its victims in the community.”
