Visakhapatnam: Rainwater entered the medicine storage and distribution room of the Ayurveda Department at King George Hospital (KGH) during heavy rains, raising concerns among patients and attendants over medicine storage conditions.
According to patients’ relatives, water seeped into the room from outside, leaving the medicine storage area damp. They raised concerns over the safety and quality of medicines that may have been exposed to moisture.
They also alleged that the facility faced waterlogging, inadequate maintenance and a shortage of staff. Several attendants said hygiene and safety standards should be strictly followed while storing medicines supplied to patients.
They urged hospital authorities to inspect the facility and take corrective measures to prevent rainwater from entering the department. There were also demands for improved infrastructure and adequate storage facilities.
KGH administrator and deputy collector B.V. Ramana acknowledged that rainwater had entered the Ayurveda department during the heavy showers.
“It is true that the Ayurveda department was flooded due to heavy rain. The facility was constructed several years ago and is facing certain issues. However, we are addressing the situation effectively,” he said.
