Visakhapatnam: Food safety officials inspected several hotels and restaurants across Visakhapatnam on Thursday and found violations related to hygiene and food storage.
The inspections, led by P. Arunababu, Director of Drugs Control Administration and Food Safety, continued until late evening.
At Kamat Hotel on Beach Road, officials seized and destroyed about 60 kg of chicken stored in violation of prescribed norms. Citing unhygienic conditions, they ordered the kitchen to be closed, issued an improvement notice and registered a case.
At Pista House on Beach Road, inspectors destroyed 30 kg of chicken, issued an improvement notice and registered a case over alleged non-compliance with food safety regulations.
Inspectors ordered the kitchen at Alpha Hotel near Jagadamba Centre to be closed after finding unsanitary conditions and issued a notice to the establishment. Similar action was taken against Fusion Foods in Siripuram following reports of hygiene deficiencies in its kitchen.
Eastern Spice Restaurant in Akkayyapalem was issued an improvement notice and a case was registered over alleged violations of hygiene standards.
The inspections covered food quality, storage practices, kitchen sanitation and compliance with food safety regulations.
The inspection team included Joint Food Controller B. Srinivas, Assistant Food Controllers Kalyan Chakravarthy and Venugopal Rao, and Food Safety Officers Ravikumar, Apparao, Ravindra Reddy, Srinu and Anand Rao.
