Producer Naga Vamsi is reportedly making a big bet on Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, acquiring the Telugu States theatrical rights for a hefty price. According to a source, the deal is valued at around ₹45 crore, excluding 18% GST, taking the overall outlay to more than ₹53.10 crore.
“₹45 crore plus 18% GST works out to over ₹53 crore. This is among the highest prices paid for the Telugu theatrical rights of a dubbed Tamil film,” says a source close to the trade.
The hefty investment underlines the confidence in Rajinikanth’s enduring market in the Telugu States. The first Jailer proved that the Superstar’s appeal extends well beyond Tamil Nadu, and the sequel is now commanding significant theatrical valuations even before its release.
With the Telugu States and overseas rights together crossing the ₹90-crore mark, the trade expectations surrounding Jailer 2 are exceptionally high. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film is scheduled to hit screens on October 15 and is positioned as one of the major festive-season releases.
The Telugu market will also see an interesting clash, with Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Ranabaali arriving on October 16, just a day after Jailer 2. Backed by Mythri Movie Makers, the film adds another major contender to what is shaping up to be a highly competitive festive weekend.
For Naga Vamsi, the sizable Jailer 2 acquisition makes the film an important theatrical bet, with the audience response and opening weekend likely to determine how comfortably the distributor can recover the steep investment.
