Amanda Holden swore on stage in recent days after a ‘bizarre’ moment left her mortified while taking part in a raffle to raise funds for breast cancer research
Amanda Holden has graced the stage countless times during her career but a “bizarre” incident in recent days left her concluding: “Oh my gosh, nothing like that has ever happened to me in my life.”
The 55-year-old was hosting the Future Dreams Ladies Lunch at The Savoy Hotel which raised funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Giving an insight into it, the Britain’s Got Talent judge said: “Very emotional afternoon, lots of tears, loads of laughter, loads of amazing stories.”
However, the inspiring event concluded with a raffle, and the unexpected outcome of it left Amanda mortified. She shared the funny story to Jamie Theakston on their Heart Breakfast show.
She said: “Anyway, it finished with a big raffle and I’m sat at my table. I’m thinking, I’m finished, I’ve done my bit. And someone said, ‘Oh could you just come and pull the number out of the hat.’
“I go up on stage and I give my ticket to the lady that’s been looking after me all day, getting me on and off the stage and making sure everything was running smoothly. I go up on the stage, I make a big song and dance, swish it all around, swish it all around…”
She added: “There’s probably 1,000 people in the room and the raffle, I thought it was a raffle for loads of things, but it was a raffle just for one thing and that was this beautiful diamont bracelet from Garrard. They donated it, amazing.”
The celeb mum said the stunning piece of jewellery was worth “a lot of money” and she was not expecting for the winning ticket she picked out to match her own. After revealing this, her co-host gasped: “You’re joking!”
She replied: “No! I swore on stage! I said, ‘You are joking.’ I went down into a ball on stage and came back up and went, ‘Oh my god, it’s not a fix. Not a fix.’”
Amanda, scrambling for a solution, added: “Obviously, I gave the ticket back. Well I didn’t, I actually said, ‘Let’s have an auction.’ I found how much the bracelet was worth and I said, ‘Lets make it worth more than that.’ So anyway, we went round the room, and a lovely lady called Gill paid four grand for it which was amazing.”
Laughing, Amanda continued: “It made me think, and I kept saying to everyone, ‘What are the chances?’ I couldn’t believe it. It’s making me think I need to do EuroMillions this week.”
Amanda hosts the quiz show The Celebrity Inner Circle where contestants and their celebrity partners have to outsmart each other to win big. The next showing is on BBC One this evening (September 26) from 5.30pm.
