Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s mythological thriller The Vvaan is currently in focus. What happens in the film The Vvaan? (Spoiler alert)
The film is set in Devanchal. Earlier, the region was filled with prosperity and was surrounded by the sacred forest Dev Van. It is believed to be the home of Van Devi. However, entry into Dev Van is forbidden after sunset. According to the local myth, Van Devi’s powers cannot be seen by any human. But the rule is broken by ‘King Vikramaditya’ (played by Sundip Ved). He is forced to enter Dev Van to seek the deity’s blessings for his critically ill pregnant wife.
Although ‘King Vikramaditya’ enters the sacred forest with a blindfold, he accidentally uncovers his eyes to see the Goddess. It is rumoured that he was killed that very night. The story then shifts to the present time in Mumbai, where ‘Rishi Kumar’ (played by Sidharth Malhotra) is a builder. He rescues a young Gangajal vendor from being crushed under a malfunctioning construction machine.
‘Rishi’ is an atheist and wants to utilise his holidays for a Goa trip, but a land acquisition matter forces him to return to his village in Devanchal. ‘Rishi’s’ wife, ‘Mamta’, is an ardent devotee of Mata Rani and hopes that she blesses them with a child. The couple reaches Devanchal with their friend, ‘Ved Prakash’, a.k.a. ‘VP’ (played by Maneish Paul).
‘Rishi’s’ elder brother, ‘Shashi Kumar’, is against the idea of constructing a road that connects the village to the main city via Dev Van. ‘Shashi’ and the other villagers believe that Van Devi is angry and thus fear her wrath. However, ‘Rishi’ refuses to believe this myth and wants his village, Devanchal, to develop. ‘Rishi’s’ disbelief about Van Devi has a deep personal connection. Six years ago, ‘Rishi’ and ‘Mamta’ were expecting their first baby.
Back then, ‘Rishi’ was a devotee of Van Devi. Despite bad weather conditions, ‘Rishi’s’ sister-in-law was adamant about sending him and ‘Mamta’ to the temple. When the duo reached the temple, a rock rolled down, injuring the then 8-month-pregnant ‘Mamta’. Due to the delay in reaching the hospital, the couple lost their child. This incident turned ‘Rishi’ and his sister-in-law’s relationship bitter, and he moved to Mumbai for a better lifestyle.
‘Rishi’, who supports antagonist ‘Deepak’ for the development of Devanchal, soon learns about his smuggling business and his sinister plan to destroy Dev Van. ‘Deepak’, who was the descendant of ‘King Vikramaditya’, has killed his father to get the sacred anklet that the King got from Van Devi.
The Vvaan ending explained (Spoiler alert)
‘Rishi’ takes the risk to enter Dev Van at night to expose ‘Deepak’s’ smuggling business. Before he dives into the unknown, ‘Mamta’ urges him to participate in Chhath Puja. During the puja, ‘Mamta’ accidentally slips and drowns in the water. ‘Rishi’ manages to rescue ‘Mamta’ with Devi’s guidance, and this makes him realise the power of faith again.
During the climax, the audience meets ‘Veer’. ‘Veer’ was a warrior. Van Devi blessed him and said that if, in the future, Devanchal is in trouble, he has to reincarnate and protect the villagers. ‘Rishi’ is ‘Veer’s’ reincarnation. The Vvaan ends with ‘Rishi’ killing ‘Deepak’ in front of Van Devi. The story moves one year forward, where ‘Rishi’ and ‘Mamta’ are blessed with a baby.
