Beverley Callard has admitted that her whole life has had to be put on hold amid her cancer battle.
The actress, 69, announced earlier this year she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and relocated to Ireland around the same time so she could star as Lily Patterson in the RTE soap Fair City.
Beverley, best known for having starred as Rovers landlady Liz McDonald on Coronation Street for almost 30 years, recently told fans that an ambulance had to be called when she lost consciousness on set and on Saturday evening, she shared a new update.
Speaking in a new video posted to Instagram, she said: “Well, you’ll be all pleased to know I’ve been resting like that. And, which to be honest, I do apart from going to work. I’ve got no social life, and my life is on hold. But I can’t not go to work.
“We’ve cancelled everything aside from one commitment I’d made, which I couldn’t let them down.” Beverley then revealed to her fans that she and her husband Jon were at a dog sanctuary.
What followed was various clips of Beverley, who already has two dogs, trying to persuade her husband to take another one home. They both took to one in particular called Elvis but in the end, Jon exclaimed: “We’ve got enough dogs!”
Beverley captioned the post: “Well, after an eventful week, what with ambulance at work etc. been resting, eating healthy food and drinking loads of water. This afternoon was just for pleasure and to make new friends. Had the best time.
“Please all follow @dublindoghub if you have room in your home and your heart give them a visit it’s a truly wonderful place. And should we give Elvis a home??”
Earlier this week, the former I’m A Celeb star, who recently completed radiotherapy but was told she would need more tests to do with her stomach, was sent home from work to rest after “losing consciousness” on set but was still none the wiser as to what had actually happened to her.
She said: “I recovered and felt fine again but I can’t explain what it was. I was boiling hot. I seemed to lose 10 minutes but I don’t know why. I was checked out by the ambulance men and everything and they were happy to let me come home as long as I rested.”
“But aside from that, I don’t know what’s going on . But I’m at the hospital again next week, so I’ll probably know more, and I’m awaiting the results of these other tests and the biopsies they’ve taken from my stomach.
“So, that’s it really. As I say, I feel a bit of a fraud, but the dogs know I’m poorly, they won’t leave me alone again. So, there we go. If anybody else has had this, please let me know, because I don’t know what’s going on with me at all. Lots of love.”
