Vijayawada:A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking regulation of fees charged by private schools in the state.
Indian Union Muslim League state general secretary Shaik Khajavali filed the PIL in the High Court here on Saturday, alleging that private educational institutions were arbitrarily hiking fees and fleecing parents.
He alleged that some schools were insisting that students buy books, uniforms, notebooks and shoes only from the respective schools, which were selling them at high prices.
He urged the court to issue suitable directions to provide relief to the parents of about 49 lakh students. The PIL is likely to be taken up for hearing on Monday.
