Hyderabad: Minutes after the Ganesh festivities concluded, the entire event having been completed with little to no untoward incidents, city police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Saturday said the police would begin preparations for the next year’s celebrations to conduct them in an even more refined manner.
Speaking to the media, Sajjanar said the police for the first time had used advanced crowd monitoring technology during the Ganesh immersion procession. ”The most prestigious mega event in Hyderabad has concluded under very peaceful conditions,” Sajjanar said. He had his team of senior officials broke out into a brief jig after the event.
“Our officers and personnel functioned without sleep for the past 48 hours, remaining stationed on the roads to discharge their duties,” Sajjanar said. “After this experience we have formed special teams. We will conduct a detailed de-briefing session to draw from these experiences. We will begin formulating plans right away to organise the 2027 Ganesh festival in an even more refined and peaceful manner,”
Apart from the lakhs of people from the four police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City, a large number of devotees had arrived from across Telangana, neighboring states, and even abroad to witness the procession. “I specially thank everybody,” the commissioner said.
“Over the past two months, key stakeholders alongside the government, including the GHMC commissioner, the HYDRAA commissioner, officials from the R&B department, southern discom, district health office, RTC, HMWS&SB and others rendered extraordinary cooperation,” he said Sajjanar said 20,000 personnel from the city police and over 8,000 additional personnel drawn from other districts were deployed for bandobast. “I also extend special thanks to the DGP for allocating these additional forces to us.”
“Under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Hyderabad city police initiated meticulous preparations in advance with the sole objective of conducting the Ganesh festivities in a safe and peaceful environment,” he said.
Approximately 30 lakh devotees had visited the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh, while 15 lakh devotees offered prayers to the Balapur Ganesh. Despite the heavy rush causing slight delays, the organisers displayed utmost cooperation. The commissioner explained that even though some pandal organisers set out late for immersion, all idols were safely transported to Hussainsagar
The police had conducted multiple coordination and review meetings regarding security arrangements and crowd monitoring three months before the festival. “We actively inspected conditions at the ground level and held coordination meetings,” he added. Sajjanar and senior officials had travelled on the procession routes on motorcycles to get a first-hand feel of the conditions.
