The Islanders brought in a towering defenseman days before their season opener.
They signed Logan Stanley to a one-year contract, the team announced on Sunday.
Isaiah George was sent down to AHL Hamilton after a rough training camp, meaning the Islanders needed to sign a left-handed defenseman.
They found one in the 6-foot-7 Stanley.
The No. 18-overall pick in 2016, Stanley, 28, recorded 26 points (nine goals and 17 assists) with the Jets and Sabres last year.
The Jets traded him to the Sabres ahead of the deadline last year, though he was scratched for the Sabres’ final four playoff games.
The Islanders also sent Kashawn Aitcheson and Cole Eiserman to AHL Hamilton, while Vitek Vanecek was placed on waivers for purpose of assignment.
They open up their season on Wednesday against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
