At the Bottega Veneta show the celebrities were out in full force. There was brand ambassadors Jacob Elordi cutting quite a figure, but also Tyler The Creator, Solange, Jorja Smith, Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton, Felicity jones, Owen Cooper, Zeyne and Yasmine Hamdan. It made for quite an eclectic group, but it felt perfectly in tune with the direction of the house under designer Louise Trotter.

Because this brand has made cross pollination of creatives its driving force both in the front row and on the catwalk. This was apparent in the tapping of artist Karton Hocker for the crushed resin coated cardboard box stools the guests sat on, the charming single woven leather flower placed on each seat and the oversized invitation posters that got the audience in the mood with its stark image of the stool. There were also sound artists Florian Hecker, and then Mark Leckey, setting the mood before and during the show. All of which is to say, if your a lover of artistic expression, Bottega Veneta is the brand for you.

The first sensation that hit while watching the show unfold was a feeling of childlike whimsy. The knit Peter-Pan-esque hats many of the models wore certainly helped project that sentiment. As did the oversized proportions of many of the silhouettes, plus the overall crafty nature of the collection – which always kept the importance of human hands being used to execute the pieces front of mind.

The crochet and lace pieces, the woven leather accents and looping fringing skirt, the jackets knotted at the side and the rope tasseled belts gave the collection an artisanal vibe. And while past collections from the designer have leaned more towards heavyweight ideas, this time Trotter had a lighter touch. Creating movement with voluminous coats, bubble skits and open weave knitwear. The introduction of sweeter shades of butter yellow, pink and lilac also added to the légèreté of the looks.

Watching Trotter loosen up and feel more and more at home at Bottega Veneta each season is a joy to watch unfold and bolds very well for the brand in the future.
