Death of woman found in Brisbane bin probably not suspicious: police

The death of a woman whose body was found in a bin at an inner-Brisbane unit complex is not suspicious, police believe.

Workers emptying the bin discovered the body just before noon on Friday in an underground car park of the building on Lambert Street in Kangaroo Point.

A huge number of police were called to the scene, with emergency cars lining the street and residents interviewed one-on-one outside about their recollections of events.

“It appears at this stage to be non-suspicious,” Detective Chief Superintendent Colin Briggs said on Monday morning.

“The investigation is ongoing. We always make sure that we cover off on every aspect … so our homicide investigators are still deployed.”

Veolia, which manages Brisbane City Council’s residential waste removal, said its workers enacted an emergency service response after the discovery.

“As is standard procedure, our team checked the bin’s contents before tipping and immediately stopped the work,” the Veolia spokeswoman said.

“This ongoing investigation is a matter for the police.

“Our main priority is the welfare of our team members. We are providing support and will continue to do so for as long as necessary.”
