Pune: Tata Motors has introduced a compact sedan called Aeris with a starting price of Rs 5.29 lakh for petrol and Rs 6.29 lakh for iCNG. It is essentially a facelifted version of the outgoing Tigor compact sedan, featuring a Tiago-like exterior and interior design while retaining its mechanicals.
The carmaker is selling the Aeris in five variants called Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished, with a tag of Rs 9.74 lakh, whose deliveries will start from October 11.
Tata Aeris reimagines the compact sedan by combining the sedan’s inherent strengths of comfort, stability, space, efficiency and elegance with the modern design, technology, safety and ownership experience desired by the aspirational car buyer.
“The sedan remains one of the most timeless expressions of the car, with a loyal set of customers,” said Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.
With Aeris, the automaker is providing customers choice across body styles and powertrains for the personal buyers.
“This singular focus gives it a distinct purpose and identity, and customers every reason to desire Aeris,” Chandra noted.
The Aeris carries forward the Tigor’s powertrain options, same as the current-generation Tiago. The 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol produces 84 BHP and 113 Nm of torque in the petrol engine, while the CNG avatar sees output reduced to 75 BHP and 97 Nm of torque. Both fuel options are available with 5-speed manual and AMT transmission choices.
Tata claims the Aeris will be offered exclusively to private buyers, so we have to watch what approach Tata will chart for fleet operations, where Tigor is ubiquitous in its EV form.
