Suzuki plans to halve the time needed to develop new vehicles to two years by 2030, using artificial intelligence and simultaneous development processes to bring new models to market more quickly.
The automaker said the target represents a 50% reduction from its development period in fiscal 2020 and is intended to allow the company to respond more rapidly to changing market demand.
Under the new approach, processes including vehicle design, engineering and production preparation will proceed in parallel rather than largely in sequence, shortening the overall development cycle.
Suzuki also plans to make greater use of AI and digital technologies, conducting testing and simulations in virtual environments to improve development efficiency and reduce the amount of time required for physical testing.
The company said product development and production divisions will work simultaneously at full speed, allowing Suzuki to shorten the time between the initial development stage and the launch of a new vehicle.
Suzuki hopes the faster development system will help it compete more effectively with automakers that are already able to bring new products to market at a rapid pace.
