EXCLUSIVE: Zion Foster has been speaking about fatherhood and moving on with his life after he split from Jesy Nelson, the mother of his twin daughters
Jesy Nelson’s ex-fiance has revealed he received thousands of abusive messages and death threats when their relationship broke down. Zion Foster, 26 and Jesy, 35, share twin daughters who were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.
But the couple split at the end of last year having previously been engaged, and now both have new partners. In a rare interview, Zion spoke about his daughters and new music plans but also looked back at a tough break up with the former Little Mix star.
Asked about going “through life in the public eye” with Jesy and the twins and then subsequent split, he said: “Its a lonely space. It is hard, there is a lot of alone time. A lot uncertainty. It’s probably the hardest part.
“You can wake up to one thousand messages saying ‘go kill yourself’. It gets like that. It is hard, you don’t feel good about it. But I am someone who does not dwell in the bad, I like to look straight ahead and stay positive.
“If I see something effecting me in a certain way or not supporting me, I am not good at being ‘I can’t use social media right now’. I have two phones, one with social media, one without. If I don’t need the one with social media, it is staying at home. If I am going into the studio…I might want to post I take that one out.”
Speaking on the The Real Spill on You Tube, Zion was also asked about fatherhood. He is keen to play a significant part in the lives of Ocean and Story and co-parents with Jesy.
He said: “All in all it has been beautiful. It is a privilege and I love being a dad and I am so proud of my girls. They have got SMA, a genetic condition.
“It’s been tough, it is a lot to learn and understand about when you have kids. It’s been a journey and an ongoing journey. Fatherhood is a marathon, there is still a lot I am learning there is still a lot I am going to learn. I am filled with love and joy and purpose. Whatever it takes I will do it for them.”
He added: “When they were diagnosed and throughout the whole process when you are dealing with a condition like SMA the girls are constantly told you can’t. From how I see the world, I want to be telling them what they can do.
“Yes they have a disability and it might be life limiting but I am focused on what they can do. What plays on my mind is they are young but I don’t want them to get to a certain age and have confidence issues, I want them to feel like they can.”
Zion did not go into details about his relationship with Jesy, He is now reportedly dating a girl called Sav and said he still believed in love. Jesy is dating gardener Ben Davies.
On commitment Zion said: “As a man I have always been raised [to aim for] marriage…so engagement is a blessing, something to be proud of and a goal. For me engagement and marriage I am a fan of. It’s a part of my thinking. Its unfortunate when things don’t go how you want them to go, but you keep going and the goal doesn’t change. The path I want to walk, I want to be engaged, I want to be married, I want a strong family unit.”
Jesy spoke about their split in a Prime documentary earlier this year. She said: “It’s a very traumatic thing that we’ve both been through. I think it’s quite inevitable for things like this to happen to couples I don’t think it’s a shock that we’ve broken up.”
