Sivakarthikeyan’s 27th film has officially moved on to a new chapter, with Ramkumar Balakrishnan, director of Parking, taking the project forward. The film, tentatively titled SK27, went on floors on Friday under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films. But the change in director has also brought renewed attention to the project that was originally supposed to reunite Sivakarthikeyan with Venkat Prabhu.
Venkat Prabhu had initially been announced as the director of Sivakarthikeyan’s 27th film for Sathya Jyothi Films. However, the project eventually failed to take off, with the production subsequently moving ahead with Ramkumar Balakrishnan. Now, comments made by veteran filmmaker Gangai Amaran, Venkat Prabhu’s father, have added another layer to the story.
Gangai Amaran’s comments spark speculation
Clippings from a recent interview with Gangai Amaran have been circulating widely on social media. The filmmaker, who was recently seen in Lenin Pandiyan, spoke about why his son’s next directorial venture had been delayed and suggested that an actor was responsible, although he did not name the individual.
Gangai Amaran also said that he had advised Venkat Prabhu against taking up the project. His remarks quickly prompted speculation among social media users, with many concluding that the actor in question was Sivakarthikeyan.
The speculation was further fuelled by references to pre-production work that had reportedly taken place in the USA. When the Sivakarthikeyan-Venkat Prabhu collaboration was first announced, Venkat Prabhu had travelled overseas in connection with visual effects work for the proposed film.
With the project ultimately not materialising, the old comments resurfaced just as Sivakarthikeyan’s new film with Ramkumar Balakrishnan began production.
Venkat Prabhu puts speculation to rest
Addressing the discussion on Monday, Venkat Prabhu clarified that there was no personal fallout between him and Sivakarthikeyan. In a statement, the director described the actor as a close friend and explained that his father may not have been aware of the complete circumstances surrounding the project.
“SK is always a dear friend/brother to me. A lot of speculations and controversies are going around. As a father, when a film involving your own son gets delayed, the frustration is natural. He probably doesn’t know the complete picture, and I can’t blame him for that,” he started.
Venkat Prabhu also made it clear that he generally keeps the professional side of his work private, including from his father. “I’m a very quiet person when it comes to my work and don’t discuss my professional matters in detail with anyone, including him. The project couldn’t take off due to various reasons. That’s it. No hard feelings.”
The director further indicated that the door remains open for another collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan. “If the time comes and a good script comes my way, I would love to work with SK again. So please, let’s put a full stop to all this. I’m busy with my next. My best wishes to my brother’s Seyon.”

The clarification comes after the two actors shared screen space in a memorable cameo in Vijay’s GOAT, where Sivakarthikeyan appeared during the film’s climax. While their previously announced collaboration has now been shelved, Venkat Prabhu’s statement makes it clear that he does not consider the episode a personal rift.
Sivakarthikeyan is currently shooting for Seyon, while SK27 is now progressing under Ramkumar Balakrishnan. For now, the director has asked fans and social media users to put the speculation to rest, while leaving open the possibility of working with Sivakarthikeyan again when the right script comes along.
