Parineeti Chopra has been refreshingly honest about motherhood lately, and her latest confession is one that a lot of working mothers will recognise instantly. In a recent chat, the actress opened up about the first time she left her son Neer to travel for work, and how it left her completely shaken.
She described the moment in vivid detail. “The very first time that I had to leave my baby, and this was after many, many months of postpartum, being at home 24/7, day and night,” she began. What followed was a journey she barely remembers. “When I left him for the first time, I don’t remember that flight to Bombay. I don’t remember it. I don’t know when I walked through the airport, boarded the flight, landed, reached home. I have no memory. I was only sobbing for three hours.”
However, there was nothing to worry about. Her family had everything under control. “The baby’s fine. They’re nothing to do with your absence. The family’s fine. Everybody’s having a blast,” she said, before adding, “But the mom guilt is crazy.”
Parineeti believes the feeling comes from two directions at once. “I think it’s, of course, biological, but it’s also societal,” she said, recalling how strangers often ask her where her baby is whenever she steps out for work. It’s a question that quietly assumes mothers should pause everything else.
She also made it clear she doesn’t expect the feeling to fade. “I don’t think that mom guilt is emotional. It will never go. Even when I’m 90 years old, my mom will ask me, ‘Have you eaten today?’ That will never end, and I will never let it end.”
Parineeti and husband Raghav Chadha, who married in September 2023, welcomed Neer on October 19, 2025. She’s back at work now with her Netflix series Shaque: Trust No One, which premiered on September 24.
