Mathura: Mystery shrouds the death of Deepak Lodhi, alias Rasik Dulari Sharan, a 25-year-old disciple of renowned Vrindavan saint Premanand Maharaj, who allegedly died after falling from the fourth floor of a building in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan on September 25.
Sharan, who took initiation from Premanand Maharaj about two years ago and was renamed Rasik Dulari Sharan, died after jumping from the terrace of the Guru Kripa Kunj ashram on Friday morning. A video of him falling from the terrace began circulating on social media on Sunday.
Police say the initial investigation and CCTV footage indicate that he died by suicide. However, following a complaint from the family, they are examining all aspects of the case, with the focus now on what happened immediately before the jump.
According to Vrindavan CO Sanjeev Kumar, police are scrutinising the CCTV footage and questioning people who were present at the ashram. The cameras have been seized, and the disciple’s blood sample has been sent for forensic examination.
Investigators have also found a grinder in the room where Sharan was staying, and are probing the items recovered from the room. Police have said that facts relating to an injury to his private part have emerged during the investigation, and that blood-soaked clothes were also found, but why he sustained the injury before the fall remains unclear. The CO said that, along with scrutinizing the CCTV footage, questioning is underway with people present at the ashram, and the situation will become clear once the investigation is complete.
