Ooty: The colourful and fascinating blooms have cheered up tourists as the popular autumn tourist season has peaked in the Nilgiris. A surge of autumn tourists has brought a festive atmosphere to the hills after the bustling summer tourist season.
Though the Southwest Monsoon proved a let-down as many areas across the Nilgiris received less than normal rainfall, the good autumn showers have rocked the hills in the first half of this September, bringing the autumn magic and turning the hills verdant and colourful.
At the Government Botanical Garden here, a stellar tourist attraction, arrangement of nearly 25,000 flower pots has just commenced at the flower show gallery. Around three lakh flower plants belonging to over 50 varieties began to bloom in the gardens. This apart, autumn bloom has commenced in various public gardens across the Nilgiris, of course, which needs some more rains in the days to come to sustain the bloom in the autumn season that would run up to the Deepavali weekend in November.
Tourist spots such as the GBG, Doddabetta peak, Boat house and Rose garden have been witnessing a good surge in tourist footfall since last Friday which has turned the hospitality industry busy and vibrant. The tourism stakeholders exuded confidence that the upward trend of tourist arrival will continue till the Deepavali weekend to add to the good tidings to the travel and tourism industry in the Nilgiris.
