Alex Warren fans claim he showed his true colours when he congratulated another act who won at the MTV Video Music Awards, known as The VMA’s. Taylor Swift and Madonna were among the big winners at the star-studded event on Sunday, September 27, in LA, with Madonna performing at the show for the first time in 20 years.
The Vogue singer took home a handful of awards, including artist of the year, while Swift was awarded the first-ever Artist Director Honor and also video of the year for The Fate Of Ophelia. A new winner at the VMAs Sienna Spiro, who was named this year’s best new artist at the awards.
The English singer-songwriter and record producer from London began sharing viral singing videos on TikTok in 2021 before releasing music in 2024. Her song, Maybe, became her debut on the UK Singles Chart and peaked at number 45.
In 2025, Spiro released the track Die on This Hill, which became a breakthrough track for the artist reaching number 9 on the UK singles chart. Following its release, she signed a global publishing agreement with Sony Music Publishing.
When Alex Warren announced on stage that Spiro has won the VMA category, she looked visibly shocked, and it took her a couple of seconds to stand up and head to the stage.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Spiro expressed her disbelief, saying, “I didn’t think this would happen. I actually can’t believe this.” Both Spiro and Warren then left the stage and a camera caught a moment between the pair backstage.
In a clip being widely circulated online, Alex Warren approaches Spiro while backstage and encourages her to keep the envelope with her name inside.
He said: “Keep this. Don’t forget, keep this. Congratulations.” Spiro then looked around her, still in shock after her win, when Alex began to guide her through what would happen next.
He said, “You’re okay! They just want to get a video of you”, before guiding her to where she needed to be.
Fans were in awe of Alex Warren for showing Sienna kindness after her win, with some calling him “the big brother the music industry needs.”
