Erling Haaland has been no “no different” in his behaviour after the “sham contract” verdict against Manchester City, according to Norway team-mate Kristoffer Ajer.
Haaland will play for the first time on Thursday since the Premier League’s damning verdict on Man City, which said the club has artifically inflated their club revenue by £900million between 2009 and 2018.
Norway take on Wales in the Nations League on Thursday, when Haaland will be in the spotlight as his club faces a huge amount of uncertainty after the Premier League statement.
“Ever since I met him brings lot of energy and joy to the group,” said Brentford centre-back Ajer when asked about Haaland’s demeanour in the Norway camp since City’s guilty verdict was announced on Tuesday.
“That’s the biggest compliment I always give, he hasn’t changed a bit from the moment I met him, even though he’s the the biggest star on the planet right now.
“He been exactly the same the last few days as well which is is not a surprise for me.”
Reports of City’s guilty verdict first surfaced in the media on Friday.
City verdict ‘not discussed’ in Norway camp
Haaland scored against Portugal in a 2-1 defeat two days later, after earlier scoring two versus Denmark to extend his record as the Nations League’s all-time top scorer to 22.
Ajer said: “He’s the best player in the world if you ask me, so hopefully he scores a few tomorrow as well.
“I have to admit that honestly I’ve read very little into it [the City situation]. We don’t talk about it much here.
“Obviously, it was a statement released yesterday, so it’s quite fresh and new.
“But we’re just footballers, we don’t know all the ins and outs and all the stuff that’s being talked about in the media.
“So we haven’t really had any fantastic discussions about it where we know a lot.”
Man City verdict: Haaland future uncertain
Haaland and many of his team-mates’ futures could be thrown into serious doubt following the verdict, with the punishment yet to be decided.
No pubishment is said to be off the table, with suggestions the club could be expelled from the Premier League, which would surely see the likes of Haaland depart the club.
No current player has commented on the verdict, although City have released another statement reaffirming that they strenously deny the claims and have irrefutable evidence to clear their name.
