Mangaluru: An inpatient at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal forcibly broke open the ward’s safety measures, including the glass window and the protective external façade, and jumped, sustaining injuries.
Hospital security staff reached the spot immediately, rescued the patient, and shifted the patient for emergency care.
According to the police, the 40-year-old man identified as Rajesh R Shetty, a resident of Seebinakere in Thirthahalli taluk of Shivamogga district, was admitted to the hospital after he consumed poison at his house on September 28.
According to police, a dowry harassment case had been registered against Rajesh at the Thirthahalli Police Station. He was reportedly distressed over the case and consumed poison.
His father, Ramesh Shetty, was attending to him at the hospital.
At around 4 pm on Wednesday, Rajesh allegedly broke the glass window of the ICU ward and jumped out.
Hospital staff rescued him and shifted him to the Blue Area Ward of KMC Hospital for further treatment.
