One of the most exciting matches in the first round of the 2027 Italian Championship featured newcomer Chiavari facing off against Brescia, a Champions League club.

Although an upset did not occur, Brescia struggled to secure a victory, finishing the match 13:11.

Chiavari returned to Serie A1 after 18 years, and its players were very motivated in the premiere of the 2027 season in front of their fans in the packed stands.

Early in the second quarter, Brescia led by three goals (4:1), and it seemed that the favorite would win easily. However, Chiavari quickly scored three straight goals to level the score at 4:4. Deep into the second quarter, Chiavari took a 6:5 lead. However, Brescia netted two power-play goals in the final 40 seconds of the first half, heading into the third period with a 7:6 lead. The hosts caught up with Brescia three times during the third quarter (7:7, 8:8, 9:9), but the visitors had a 10:9 lead at the last break. Early in the fourth quarter, Ferrero doubled Brescia’s advantage to 11:9. For the rest of the match, the favorite maintained a 2-goal difference. Filippo Ferrero was the winning team’s best scorer with four goals. Veteran Pietro Figlioli netted four goals for Chiavari.

Telimar and Savona didn’t face off. Savona was unable to arrive in Palermo due to a canceled flight from Turin to Sicily. After the cancellation, no seats were available on the next flights for the team to reach Palermo in time. Consequently, the Italian Swimming Federation will make the final decision regarding the game.

Pro Recco opened the season with a 24:9 victory over Roma Vis Nova. Rino Buric scored five, and Alvaro Granados four goals for the reigning champion. Returnee Gergo Zalanki found the net twice.

Posillipo started slowly against Lazio. The former European champion trailed 1:5 after the first eight minutes, but recorded a 13:9 win.
