Hyderabad:Citizens, students and civil society members gathered at People’s Plaza on Necklace Road on Sunday to protest the alleged sexual harassment of women journalists by Delhi Police during the October 3 Jantar Mantar protest and condemned police action against women protesters. Three journalists filed complaints, which Delhi Police transferred to the Crime Branch for an inquiry.

The Hyderabad demonstration followed allegations by women journalists covering protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

One journalist accused Delhi police officer Vivek Bhagat of sexually assaulting her after she questioned the absence of women police personnel during the detention of protesters. Another journalist alleged inappropriate touching while she recorded the detention of Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan. Delhi Police said the complaints had been sent to the Crime Branch for a “fair and impartial enquiry”. Police recorded statements on Sunday and said CCTV footage would be examined.
