Rob Lowe’s son has posted a heartwrenching poem about hope following his 13-year-old cousin Fiona’s tragic death from suicide.
John Owen Lowe, 30, shared an emotional few lines from Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope Is the Thing With Feathers.”
The youngest son of The West Wing actor posted: “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all.
“And sweetest in the gale is heard; and sore must be the storm that could abash the little bird that kept so many warm. I’ve heard it in the chillest land, and on the strangest sea; yet, never, in extremity, it asked a crumb of me.”
It comes after Fiona’s older sister Mabel, 17, paid an emotional tribute and made a special vow to her sibling. Sharing words on Instagram, Mabel wrote: “I love you so much Fiona.
“I wish your short time here was easier and I hope your mind is at ease now. I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, I hope you knew just how much.”
She also included snaps of the pair playing as kids, including on a beach and one of the duo dancing together. The reel showcased a number of happy family memories, including a picnic.
Among those sharing comforting messages was the pair’s mum, Kim. She commented: “Oh Mabel. I love you so much.” Fiona was the middle daughter of the Hollywood director and his wife Kim Painter. She was also the niece of Rob Lowe.
Fiona died in a hospital on Tuesday, September 29 according to County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner records viewed by Page Six. The teen’s death was announced by her family in a public statement on Tuesday.
Her family said: “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.
“She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.” Her loved ones described their loss as “devastating” and asked for “prayers and privacy at this time.”
The family’s statement following Fiona’s death ended by saying: “If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”

“There was nowhere else Rob was going to be except by Chad’s side.” And another source added: “Rob knows there are no words that can fix this.
“He can’t take away Chad’s grief. What he can do is be present, protect his brother and make absolutely certain he never has to face this alone. Right now, he’s simply a big brother helping hold his family together.”
