The (see rates and fees) is IHG’s no-annual-fee card option. With this card, you can earn bonus points on purchases at IHG One Rewards properties and in common spending categories. Plus, cardholders get automatic IHG Silver Elite status and an annual elite status boost.
But while the no-annual-fee IHG card offers some useful perks, it may not be the best choice. If your primary focus in applying for the card is benefits on IHG stays, one of the cobranded IHG credit cards with an annual fee may provide more value.
So, let’s take a closer look at the no-annual-fee IHG card to help you decide if it’s right for you. Card Rating*: ⭐⭐½

IHG One Rewards Card: The basics
As a no-annual-fee card, the doesn’t offer many benefits. However, it does earn IHG points on purchases, including bonus points on purchases at IHG properties, restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores. And cardholders get complimentary IHG Silver Elite status plus five Elite Night Credits per year.
Starting in 2027, cardholders will need to spend $5,000 in a calendar year to unlock access to the fourth reward night free benefit (through the end of the following calendar year). In contrast, this benefit is automatically offered to those who hold an IHG card with an annual fee.

IHG One Rewards Card benefits
The doesn’t offer many perks. But here’s a quick overview of the card’s main benefits.
Automatic Silver Elite status
Travelers with the no-annual-fee IHG card enjoy automatic Silver Elite status in the IHG One Rewards program. Silver Elite is a low-level status tier, so its primary perk is 20% bonus earnings on top of base points for every stay.
Elite status boost
You’ll get five Elite Night Credits within six to eight weeks of opening your no-annual-fee IHG card. In subsequent years, IHG cardholders will receive Elite Night Credits in their accounts by Feb. 1.
Elite Night Credits are useful for earning higher tiers of IHG elite status and IHG Milestone Rewards.
Fourth night free
With the IHG fourth-reward-night-free benefit, each fourth night costs zero points when you redeem IHG points for standard room stays of four nights or longer.
However, starting in 2027, you’ll need to spend at least $5,000 in a calendar year to qualify for the fourth reward night free benefit. If you do so, you’ll get access to book fourth-reward-night-free stays (for the rest of the calendar year in which you qualified and the next calendar year).
If you’re eligible for the fourth reward night free benefit, IHG will automatically apply it when you book award stays of four nights or longer using your account. (Note that points and cash stays aren’t eligible for the fourth reward night free benefit.)
Spend to earn Gold Elite status and bonus points
If you spend $15,000 in purchases with your no-annual-fee IHG card within a calendar year, you’ll earn 10,000 bonus points and earn Gold Elite status through the end of the following calendar year.

Based on TPG’s October 2026 valuations, 10,000 points are worth $60. Meanwhile, Gold Elite status offers some additional perks over Silver Elite status, including a 40% bonus on base points for every stay and complimentary Hertz Five Star status.
Point purchase discount
You’ll get at least a 30% discount whenever you buy IHG points with your card. Know, though, that you can’t combine this discount with other promotions, such as when IHG points are on sale. Keep in mind, too, that IHG sometimes offers a much better 100% bonus when you purchase points.
I often buy IHG points when the 100% bonus drops the purchase price to 0.5 cents per point, so I don’t find a 30% discount appealing.
Instacart and DoorDash benefits
You can get three months of complimentary Instacart+ membership (when you activate your membership for the first time with your card by Dec. 31, 2027). Plus, you can get $10 in Instacart credits each month (while you have an active Instacart+ membership).
You can also get 12 months of complimentary DashPass (when you activate your membership for the first time with your card by Dec. 31, 2027). You’ll also get a monthly $10 off discount at checkout on one qualifying non-restaurant order on DoorDash (once you activate your membership for the first time with your card, as long as you remain enrolled in a DashPass membership).

How to earn and use your rewards
You’ll earn IHG points on purchases with the . Here’s what you should know about earning and redeeming these points.
Earning points on the IHG One Rewards Card
When you use the no-annual-fee IHG card to make purchases, you’ll earn:
- 5 points per dollar spent at hotels participating in IHG One Rewards
- 3 points per dollar spent on purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants (including takeout and eligible delivery services)
- 3 points per dollar spent on utilities, internet, cable and phone services, and select streaming services (through Dec. 31, 2026, then 2 points per dollar spent)
- 2 points per dollar spent on all other purchases
Keep in mind that you’ll earn up to 17 points per dollar spent at hotels participating in IHG One Rewards once you account for the up to 12 points per dollar spent you earn as a Silver Elite member.
Redeeming IHG points
The best-value way to redeem IHG points is for stays. IHG uses dynamic award pricing, so the award cost for a particular night will vary depending on the hotel you want to book, when you want to stay and when you make your reservation.
Our valuations peg IHG points at 0.6 cents per point, so this is the minimum redemption value you should strive for when redeeming IHG points.

However, I’ve recently redeemed IHG points for several stays and gotten a higher redemption rate. For example, I recently got 1.05 cents per IHG point when booking a stay in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
You can also book premium room types for more points at some properties.

And you can book points and cash rates, which can be a good option if you don’t have enough points to book purely with points. The cash part of points and cash rates is effectively used to buy the necessary points, though.
If you have access to the fourth reward night free perk — or plan to spend enough on your card in 2027 and beyond to gain access to this perk — you’ll usually get more value when you save your points for award stays of four nights or longer.

Downsides to consider about the IHG One Rewards Card
The has no annual fee, but there is an opportunity cost in adding it to your wallet. Specifically, getting this card means you likely won’t get an IHG credit card with an annual fee that offers more perks.
The IHG cards with annual fees all offer anniversary free nights, access to the fourth-night-free benefit (without a spending requirement), more Elite Night Credits, quarterly food and beverage vouchers, and higher earning rates at IHG properties.
Therefore, it may be worth considering whether another IHG One Rewards card offers more value.
IHG One Rewards Card vs. IHG One Rewards Premier Card
The (see rates and fees) is worth considering if you’re looking at the no-annual-fee IHG card.
The Premier offers an anniversary free night valid for a night costing up to 50,000 points (and you can top off the certificate for a more expensive night with points from your account).

If you’d redeem your anniversary free night each year for a night that would have otherwise cost you more than $150 (the annual fee of the IHG Premier), the certificate alone could offset the annual fee on the IHG Premier. I have the IHG Premier and believe it’s definitely worth its annual fee.
With the Premier, you’ll also receive perks like Gold Elite status and up to $25 in quarterly food and beverage rewards to use at IHG hotels.
Is the IHG One Rewards Card worth it?
The no-annual-fee IHG card can be worth having if you want to earn IHG points on credit card purchases but don’t want to pay an annual fee.
However, know that you can get more benefits with the IHG credit cards that have annual fees, such as the $150-annual-fee and the $350-annual-fee (see rates and fees).
When to apply for the IHG One Rewards Card
The currently has a welcome offer of 125,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. Offer ends Nov. 18.
Based on our valuations, these bonus points are worth $750.
We recommend applying for this card when the offer is over 80,000 points, as the current one is attractive.

Plus, you can earn 10,000 bonus points after you add an authorized user to your account in the first three months from account opening.
However, you won’t be eligible for the no-annual-fee IHG card if you currently have any personal IHG card or received a new cardholder bonus on any personal IHG card within the last 24 months. Likewise, be sure to consider the Chase 5/24 rule before applying.
Other cards to consider if you don’t want the IHG One Rewards Card
If the isn’t right for you, you may want to consider one of the following cards:
- If you want more IHG perks: The top-tier has a $350 annual fee and provides automatic Platinum Elite status, a free night award each account anniversary, quarterly food and beverage reward vouchers, unlimited access to the fourth-reward-night-free perk and more Elite Night Credits each year. To learn more, read our full review of the IHG Premier Select.
- If you prefer more flexible rewards: The no-annual-fee (see rates and fees) earns Citi ThankYou points that you can transfer to many airline and hotel programs. To learn more, read our full review of the Citi Strata Card.
- If you prefer cash-back rewards: The no-annual-fee (see rates and fees) provides straightforward earning at a rate of at least 2% cash back (1% when you buy and another 1% as you pay for your purchases). To learn more, read our full review of the Citi Double Cash Card.
For additional options, check out our full list of no-annual-fee hotel credit cards.
Bottom line
The IHG One Rewards Credit Card can be a good fit for occasional IHG guests who want to earn points and enjoy basic elite perks without paying an annual fee.
Whether it deserves a place in your wallet depends on how often you stay with IHG and how much value you get from its benefits compared with other rewards cards.
If you can use an anniversary free night each year, consider the instead, since that perk alone could offset its annual fee.
