Who Is Angelynn Mock? Ex-Fox Anchor Gets Life Sentence After Killing Mom And Calling Her 'The Devil'

Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock’s career once put her in front of television cameras as a morning news anchor. Now, the former TV personality is facing decades behind bars after being found guilty in the brutal murder of her mother, Anita Avers, at their Wichita, Kansas, home on Halloween 2025.

The 48-year-old was sentenced to life in prison on Monday, October 5, 2026, for the October 31, 2025, killing of Avers. She will be eligible for parole after 25 years, but her legal team says she has no intention to appeal at the moment.

The chilling case has resurfaced with court records revealing Mock’s history of mental health issues and her disturbing statements to officials during the murder investigation.

Who was Angelynn Mock before her psychological decline?

Mock was a familiar face on television in the 2010s, working as a morning anchor for KTVI and a Fox affiliate in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. According to Mock’s stepfather, she had a falling out with her employer and was fired from her job at KTVI Fox 2 following an “explosive situation involving alcohol.”

Before her St. Louis role, Mock served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011. After completely leaving the broadcasting industry in 2015, she transitioned into software and data management sales roles, which she was still working in at the time of her arrest. She was reportedly preparing for an interview with a Winchita TV station when she was arrested.

Angelynn Mock has had a long history of mental health struggles. Berry Avers, her stepfather, told investigators that she had initially been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and severe depression. However, the diagnosis was later revised to schizoaffective disorder, where the patient manifests schizophrenic features alongside a mood disorder.

Court documents cited by the NY Post revealed that Mock had an explosive psychiatric episode years before the murder, and she was involuntarily held at a psychiatric hospital for roughly two weeks. Her stepfather also noted a long history of psychiatric problems, angry outbursts, and bizarre delusions.

Mock reportedly expressed highly distorted views on reality, including times when she believed certain people around her were robots. Her stepdad said she believed she spoke to God and had referred to herself as the Anti-Christ.

Her family told investigators that Mock had experienced angry outbursts but had not previously been considered violent.

Why did Angelynn Mock kill her 80-year-old mother?

On Halloween morning in 2025, police responded to a home in the 1500 block of East Crowley in South Wichita, Kansas, after Mock called 911 and reportedly claimed that her mother had tried to kill her and that she had stabbed her in self-defense. Officers found Mock outside the home with cuts on her hands.

Inside, 80-year-old Anita Avers was found dead in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She reportedly had 12 stab wounds, and the officials also found a collection of bloody kitchen utensils laid out on a pillow next to Avers’ body, which included multiple kitchen knives and a cheese grater.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mock gave investigators changing accounts of what happened. She said she had gone to her mother’s room to discuss an upcoming job interview and found Avers sharpening knives. She reportedly told investigators:

“I’d kill that bitch to have my mom back any day. I don’t even know who she is anymore… I had to kill her; she wasn’t going to stop.”

During another part of the investigation, Mock reportedly spoke about her mother in deeply disturbing terms, saying she believed Avers was “the devil.” She previously told investigators that she had stabbed first, but later said it was Avers who had initiated it.

Mock was initially ruled incompetent to stand trial in January 2026. A judge ordered her to undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment, temporarily halting the criminal case. Ultimately, she pled guilty in August 2026 to murdering her mother.

Mock received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years on October 5, 2026. Sonya Kritzinger, Avers’ stepdaughter, delivered a statement that was read in court. She said the killing had deprived the family of the chance to properly say goodbye to Avers. Speaking about Mock, Kritzinger said:

“I believe she should never see daylight again.”

Mock did not address the court before sentencing, and her attorneys said they do not plan to appeal either. What are your thoughts on this chilling case?
