Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan has opened up about the box-office failure of his recent film I’m Game, taking responsibility for the outcome while admitting that filmmaking does not come with a guaranteed formula for success.
The film, directed by Nahas Hidhayath, received a relatively positive response for its first half, but the second half failed to sustain the momentum, eventually affecting its theatrical performance.
During a recent interaction with fans on X, Dulquer responded to a fan who asked whether he had read an analysis thread discussing the film’s shortcomings. The actor said he had gone through it and agreed with much of the assessment.
“I read through it. I’m not saying you were wrong in your analysis. You were mostly right. And trust me, we are aware of all of it. But there are just times when, from our end, we can do everything right, but outside factors can turn those upside down,” he said.
Dulquer also pointed out that analysing a finished film is considerably easier than actually making one. According to him, there is no fixed formula that filmmakers can follow to guarantee a good movie.
“It’s easy to analyse an end product, but it’s never easy to make a film. There is no particular formula that can be applied to make a good movie,” he said, adding that nobody sets out to make a bad film.
The actor concluded on a candid note, asking fans to hold him responsible for the result rather than blaming others involved in the film.
I’m Game, produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his Wayfarer Films banner, features an ensemble cast including Antony Varghese, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Vinay Forrt, Parth Tiwari, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Aadam and Ashish Mathew.
