As losses have piled up and the Jets dropped from 1-0 to 1-3, negativity has followed.
Coach Aaron Glenn’s name has circulated on the ever-popular, early-season hot-seat lists. Disgruntled fans have started to question if another lost season is upon them.
Demario Davis, the veteran linebacker and one of six team captains, shared a message with those counting out this team after four games.
“The sense of urgency isn’t changing, and that’s when you know you’re doing the right [things]. If you need to change your process when things are going wrong, that means you weren’t doing the right things early on, and that’s one of the good things about this organization,” Davis said after practice Thursday. “Two things that this group is going to do: It’s not going to flinch, it’s not going to waver. We haven’t gotten the results that we wanted, but we’re not going to flinch.
“We got the right guys that are resilient. But we’re also not going to waver. We’re not going to change our process. We’re just going to do the little things a little bit better, and that’s what we’re working towards.”
A lot has gone wrong of late, since the Jets couldn’t get a key late stop in a frustrating seven-point loss to the Lions in Week 3. This past Sunday, they were outclassed by a Bears team that was without starting quarterback Caleb Williams. Chicago ran an absurd 89 plays to the Jets’ 32, and outgained them, 492-157.
The final score of 23-12 didn’t do the game justice, as the Jets were outplayed so thoroughly.
The loss dropped Gang Green to 4-17 under Glenn and felt a lot like last year, when the Jets were often noncompetitive.
But the 37-year-old Davis isn’t questioning Glenn or the franchise. He is convinced they are headed in the right direction, despite the three consecutive losses.
“Our process doesn’t change. It’s the right way,” said Davis, a five-time All-Pro. “I’ve been around a lot of programs, and we’re doing the things that lead to winning. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten those results on Sunday. But we continue to sharpen the process. We continue to come back to work and we work the right way.
“When you’re trying to build a sustainable winning organization, you have to be able to make those plays in those moments, and that’s what we’re working to do. We have enough guys in this room that can make those plays.”
It’s obviously easier said than done. Davis admitted the defense was a “little shocked” at the results the last two weeks after starting out so strong. He was encouraged by their four takeaways, even if three were negated by penalties.
Glenn has said it is important that the Jets tune out the outside noise and not let the franchise’s recent ugly history get into their heads because of how frequently fans and analysts will discuss it.

Davis got that message. When asked what stood out to him on film from the Bears loss, Davis said his focus had moved to this coming Sunday’s meeting with the red-hot Browns, who have won three straight games.
That is all that matters to him and his teammates. “With this group,” he said, “we’re going to respond the right way.”
