Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng are confirmed as series regulars, with Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh returning in a recurring capacity. Chieng is expected to reprise his role as Edison “Eddie” Cheng, Nick’s status-obsessed cousin from Hong Kong, while the rest of the beloved ensemble, including Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and Gemma Chan, remains to be formally confirmed.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the 2018 film, returns as showrunner and executive producer, alongside original director Jon M. Chu, author Kevin Kwan, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Lim couldn’t contain her excitement over finally getting to tell more of the story. “It’s a ‘Crazy Rich’ family reunion! This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes to delve into the characters and worlds of Kevin Kwan’s brilliant books,” she said.

Chu was equally emotional about the announcement, sharing a heartfelt note on Instagram. “Eight years ago, Crazy Rich Asians changed my life, and I got to make it with the most creative and hilarious group of people I’ve ever known.” He then addressed the years of fan speculation directly, adding, “Finally, I get to answer the question I’ve been asked almost every day for eight years: ‘When are we getting the sequel?’ Well… bok bok b—-, we’re back.”

The series will draw from Kwan’s broader book trilogy, picking up after the events of the film and diving deeper into the extravagant, scandal-laced world of Singapore’s wealthiest families. Production is set to begin in 2027, with HBO yet to confirm a release date.

Released in 2018, the original film made history as the first major Hollywood studio production with an all-Asian cast, going on to earn over $239 million worldwide.
