Celine Dion, 58, fell over while performing at the Plénitude Arena near Paris on Wednesday night, but the iconic singer got straight back up and carried on as if nothing had happened
Celine Dion showed her determination to keep the show going after taking a tumble on stage during her latest Paris performance.
The singer, 58, was performing at the Plénitude Arena on Wednesday night when she slipped on the floor while singing. However, after hitting the ground hard, she quickly got back to her feet and continued with the song, seemingly unfazed by the incident.
Celine, who is among the top-selling musical artists in history, wowed fans with renditions of hits including Because You Loved Me, It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, and 1997 megahit My Heart Will Go On.
A fan who travelled from Canada to see the music icon shared footage of the moment on TikTok, explaining that it happened during the singer’s 11th night at the venue.
They wrote: “Celine took a small tumble last night on night 11.
“She got up immediately without skipping a beat and continued her song, letting her fans know she is OK.
“A true icon. So happy to have made it all the way to Paris from Canada to see our national treasure live.”
The clip prompted an outpouring of affection from fans, with one commenting: “Just love her.”
Another praised the way Celine recovered, writing: “She was having such a blast soaking up the vibe, and—bam—she got back up like a queen!”
A third added: “Truly a great lady.”
Celine’s return to the stage has been closely watched by fans after she revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that can cause severe muscle stiffness and spasms.
The star has been performing in Paris since September 12, with her current run scheduled to finish on October 17. She is expected to return to the stage in May next year.
In the 2024 documentary I Am: Céline Dion, she shared the reality of the condition with extraordinary honesty. She spoke of muscle spasms so severe they cracked her ribs, left her struggling to breathe, swallow and most heartbreakingly of all for her, sing.
Céline has said she initially failed to recognise the seriousness of what was happening to her body because she was so focused on caring for her late husband, René Angélil, as he battled cancer.
Eventually, she was forced to come to terms with her greatest fear: that she might never sing again.
In a five-star review of Celine’s first show in the long-awaited comeback tour, The Mirror called it : “One of the stand out performances of her life”.
Stiff Person Syndrome is a progressive neurological condition affecting between one and two people in every million. It causes increasingly severe muscle stiffness and spasms, including in the vocal cords.
The condition is often misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or fibromyalgia as the symptoms can be similar. Celine has said she suffered with symptoms for 17 years before finally being diagnosed.
