Saba Pataudi gets candid about her brain tumour diagnosis

In a recent conversation with her sister, Soha Ali Khan, Saba Pataudi recalled how one day she fainted, and later an MRI revealed something very shocking. The jewellery designer revealed that she did not have any pre-symptoms or any conditions that she thinks led up to it. One day, she thought she might have an issue with her stomach. Saba admitted that her stomach has always been a sensitive point for her. She said:

“I thought I had eaten or drunk something that hadn’t agreed with me. I suddenly fainted.”

Saba shared her first thoughts and how she associated her fainting with BP issues. She mentioned that she felt very uncomfortable and wanted to go back home. She also informed her friend about her uneasiness. Recalling the moment, Saba said:

“We were about to go out, but suddenly everything went blank. When I regained consciousness, I had already fallen on the road, just outside the building.”

Following this, it took Saba about 20 to 25 minutes to get back to normalcy. She then went for an MRI test. Saba shared that the test results left her in shock. She admitted that it was something completely unexpected that happened to her at the age of 27, without any warning. She added that back then it was not easy for her to process the information that she would have to undergo brain surgery.

Sharing about how she felt, Saba said that her life had suddenly gone numb because nothing felt normal after that. Saba explained that one day, she was fine, and the next day, she was told that she was going to have brain surgery. She added that it was not something as simple as having their appendix removed. Expressing her feelings, Saba said:

“It shatters you in a way, but it also empowers you because you have to deal with it. I realised that I was very emotional. I would suddenly find myself crying without knowing why. You are trying to process news that you never expected to receive.”

Further, in the conversation, Saba shared that she was afraid of becoming dependent on other people for help. During her surgery, the jewellery designer asked her doctor if there was anything else that could be done to treat her condition. The doctor suggested radiation therapy. Saba also asked the doctor why they couldn’t do everything necessary while she was already undergoing treatment.

The jewellery designer shared that her mom, Sharmila Tagore, was surprised when she asked this to the doctor. Saba added that she just wanted to finish it and didn’t want anything to be left behind.
