Nana Patekar once reflected on the ‘pain’ after breaking up with Manisha Koirala
Nana Patekar and Manisha Koirala’s relationship was one of the most talked-about subjects in the film tabloids back in the 1990s. Although the two actors rarely spoke publicly about their personal lives, it was Nana’s heartbreaking confession during an interview that has now resurfaced after his death.

Nana once opened up about the emotional toll of their breakup in a 1997 interview. He revealed that his breakup with Manisha Koirala was one of the most difficult chapters of his life. In the candid interview, Nana spoke about the pain he experienced after their relationship ended. The actor asserted that one needs to go through such pain to understand it, because there are no words that can ever amount to what he feels. He was quoted as saying:
“It’s a very difficult phase. You have to experience it to know the pain. I can’t find words to describe the pain I went through. Please, let’s not talk about this. I miss Manisha.”
For those who are not aware, Nana Patekar and Manisha Koirala shared the screen in several films, including Khamoshi and Agni Sakshi. While Nana won a National Film Award for the latter, the two reportedly ended their relationship while working on Yug Purush. However, despite the separation, the actor felt extremely deeply for Manisha.
In the interview, he spoke warmly about Manisha Koirala and her prowess as an actor. Nana Patekar called his ex-girlfriend’s talent a blessing and compared her to a kasturi hiran. He admitted that the actress is yet to realise that she doesn’t need to keep up with anyone. He was quoted as saying:
“Manisha has an inborn talent. She’s the most sensitive actress around. She’s like a kasturi hiran; she still has to realise that she doesn’t need to keep pace with anyone. She has it all, and that’s more than enough.”
