MAHBUBABAD: A woman murdered her two minor children and died by suicide at Linga thanda of Mahbubabad district, on Saturday. Her eldest daughter escaped, having been led away from the spot by a relative, while the mother, Banothu Anusha, and her two other minor children, aged nine and four, died. Sources said financial difficulties and alleged pressure from relatives over the responsibility of caring for an elderly family member could have led to the murder-suicide bid.
Anusha, husband Naveen and three children were living at her mother Susheela’s house, following her father’s death. Relatives had allegedly insisted that Anusha’s family take responsibility for caring for Susheela or vacate the house. The couple were also said to have differences over financial issues.
Locals said Anusha had a minor argument with her mother last week, following which elders intervened and resolved the issue. On Saturday morning, she reportedly had a dispute with her husband over an auto-finance matter.
Against this backdrop, Anusha left with her three children for agricultural fields on the outskirts of Balapala in Kuravi mandal. A relative, Maloth Chinni, reportedly intercepted her and attempted to take the children home. Chinni took the eldest child along with him, while Anusha left with her other two children.
After efforts to bring Anusha home failed, the family informed her husband. She is believed to have subsequently allegedly killed the children and died by suicide.
About an hour later, shepherds noticed a child’s body and alerted villagers. Locals from the Thanda went to the spot and recovered the bodies of Anusha and the two children.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
