HYDERABAD: BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao on Sunday accused the Congress government of neglecting Siddipet district by stopping development projects initiated during the previous BRS government instead of completing them.
Addressing a public meeting at the Government Degree College grounds to mark the 10th anniversary of Siddipet district, Harish Rao said the formation of the district in 2016 had brought administration closer to the people. He said residents of Husnabad, Cherial, Dubbak, Wargal and other mandals previously had to travel to Sangareddy for official work.
Recalling the demand for a separate Siddipet district, Harish Rao said the proposal was first placed before then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao in 1983. “However, the demand was fulfilled by K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2016.”
Harish Rao said irrigation projects, including Ananthagiri, Gouravelli, Ranganayakasagar, Mallannasagar and Kondapochammasagar, had improved agricultural conditions in the region. He also cited improvements in drinking water supply, roads, drainage infrastructure and the establishment of an IT Tower.
Criticising the Revanth Reddy government, he alleged that farmers were facing power cuts and irrigation water shortages despite water being available in the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
Describing the situation as an “artificial drought”, Harish Rao alleged that pumps at Kaleshwaram, Kalwakurthy and Devadula irrigation projects were not being operated properly. He further alleged that several development projects, including roads, a veterinary college, sports stadium, tourism works and an agriculture college, had either been cancelled or stopped by the Congress government.
Harish Rao demanded that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy apologise to farmers and complete the pending crop loan waiver. He claimed that around 24,000 farmers in Siddipet Assembly constituency were still awaiting relief under the scheme.
