Hyderabad: Amid opposition from the Bajrang Dal, the venue of comedian and activist Kunal Kamra’s comedy show was shifted from Khairatabad and held under police security at TGSRTC Kalabhavan in Secunderabad on Sunday,.
Two shows had initially been scheduled at Visweswaraya Bhavan in Khairatabad, at 3 pm and 6 pm on Sunday.
The event faced opposition from the Hyderabad unit of Bajrang Dal over Kamra’s alleged remarks about Hindu deities.
The organisation had reportedly lodged a complaint with city police seeking to prevent the programme and threatened to disrupt it if it went ahead.
It also warned of participation by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Amid the opposition, a bus carrying around 10 to 15 people arrived at the venue.
Chikkadpally police confirmed the arrival of the vehicle but said that the situation did not escalate.
One of the shows at the Khairatabad venue was cancelled, and the other show shifted to Kalabhavan.
The programme proceeded without any untoward incident, police said, adding that they provided security to prevent a possible confrontation between the event’s attendees and those opposing it.
