Hyderabad: Afzal Khan, a native of Banswada in Kamareddy district, is feared to have died while fighting for Russia near the Russia–Ukraine border.
According to reports, Afzal Khan travelled to Russia on February 15, 2026, after being promised a civilian job in the oil industry.
Sirshu Ashok, who also travelled to Russia under similar circumstances, sent a voice message to his wife claiming that Afzal Khan had died last week while fighting near the Russia–Ukraine border.
Both Afzal Khan and Sirshu Ashok travelled to Russia through an agent in search of civilian employment in the oil industry. However, they were assigned military duties near the border.
Afzal Khan’s family has appealed to the Indian Embassy in Moscow to contact the Russian authorities immediately and confirm his whereabouts and current status. They have also requested the embassy to facilitate the repatriation of his mortal remains to India if his death is confirmed.
Meanwhile, the families of Bhukya Ravinder, Sirshu Ashok and Megavath Prakash are also urging the Indian government to take steps to bring them back to India.
Further details are awaited.
