Sydney Sweeney, widely known as ‘Cassie’ of Euphoria, has made a mark in Hollywood with the role. Besides her rising career, she often makes headlines for her risqué outfit choices and her bold scenes. Recently, the actress faced intense online scrutiny for her bare-body photoshoot for a Novig ad, which prompted women athletes to bash her publicly. Amid that, Sydney’s refusal to have her nude scenes removed from the final cut of her projects has come under scrutiny.
Sydney Sweeney asked showmakers not to remove her nude scenes from the final cut
Sydney Sweeney has opened up multiple times about her family and audience’s reaction to her racy scenes. She expressed frustration that audiences blend her real identity with the roles she plays, especially her portrayal of ‘Cassie Howard’ in Euphoria. Despite the backlash over her on-screen nudity, she felt there was nothing wrong with filming such scenes if the character demanded it.
Before Sydney’s Novig ad backlash, Sydney faced intense scrutiny for her unclothed scenes in Euphoria. The showmakers did think about the public reaction and thought about omitting the nude scenes; however, it was the actress herself who was against the idea, as per Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. In an interview with The New York Times, he said he and Sydney share a chill bond and that she freely expressed her creative opinions on set.

Speaking about Sydney’s bare-body scenes, Sam stated that when he first wrote them, he was a bit skeptical about portraying them explicitly on screen. So he proposed removing nudity and shooting around certain scenes to keep it more suggestive. Recalling Sydney’s reaction, which he found funny, Sam said she asked him if he was joking.
Sydney felt that cutting out bare-body scenes would not do Cassie’s’ character justice as she was an OnlyFans model. Sam agreed, and the scenes made it into the final cut, which drew immense online attention. In Sam Levinson’s words:
“Well, it’s funny. When I first wrote it, I was like, ‘Maybe we shoot all of this, and we don’t have any nudity. Maybe there’s ways to shoot around certain things?’ And she looked at me and she was like, ‘Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. You’re telling me you’re going to, like, skirt around it?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, that’s a fair point.'”
Sydney Sweeney said her nude scenes gave her confidence and made her feel ‘powerful’

Sydney Sweeney fully immerses herself in her roles, giving it her all, even when they involve nudity. She said that she has no problem filming bare-body scenes if it’s necessary to fully capture her character’s depth. She has delivered multiple NSFW scenes in Euphoria, The Housemaid, and more, and wants to keep doing such scenes if she gets offers. In her words:
“I don’t get nervous. I gained so much confidence and self-awareness on Euphoria. I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.”
Notably, even after receiving backlash for her on-screen nudity, Sydney Sweeney shared her decision to keep taking up such racy roles to make society more accepting of female stars doing bold scenes. Sydney mentioned she wouldn’t ever be able to completely move past the hate she received for her role in Euphoria; however, she was open to a conversation about it.
