Dominique Elissa revealed a flight attendant refused to help her lift her bag into the overhead bin
On her podcast, Dominique Elissa described the incident in which she asked a man to help with her luggage and put it in the overhead bin. She explained that she was on a flight when she asked a male flight attendant to help her with her bag, but instead of helping, he told her to check in her nearly 9 lb. bag.

The 31-year-old influencer explained that previously she had injured herself by lifting her bag, and wanted to be safe this time. But the man refused to help her, despite her telling him that she was pregnant. She revealed that it was her husband, Tom, who told her not to lift her bag herself and instead ask for help. She said:
“I was on a flight the other day. I asked the flight attendant, ‘Can you please put my bag above my head, like I’m pregnant. And the flight attendant said, ‘If you can’t lift—,’ he didn’t lift it up. He goes, ‘I can’t help you, sorry.’ Yeah, he said, ‘I can’t help you.’ It was a man.”
Dominique added that the way he told her to check the bag wasn’t polite at all, and he was immediately rude, telling her that if she couldn’t lift her bag above her head, she had to check it in. She said:
“And then I said, ‘Well, I’m actually pregnant; I’d really appreciate it if you could help me because last time I injured myself.’ He goes, ‘Well, if you’re not able to lift your bag above your head, you have to check it in.’ And it wasn’t a big bag.”
Elissa further revealed that she was just shocked by the whole conversation with the flight attendant. She texted her husband, Tom, revealing the whole incident. That’s when the man next to her helped her lift her bag. Without naming the flight, Elissa shared:
“The guy next to me, I think he saw my text messages. He’s like, ‘Would you like me to get your bag?’ I feel this lack of respect for pregnant women at the moment, now that I’m pregnant.”

Social media users also shared their opinions. One user, who claimed to be a flight attendant, stated that pregnant or not, it is not a crew member’s responsibility to lift the bag, as the risk of injury from cabin baggage is incredible. The person added that the risk of losing their job due to an injury is high for cabin crew member. The user wrote:
“You pack it, you stack it. You tow it, you stow it. You bring it, you sling it. Pregnant or not, it’s not cabin crew’s responsibility to lift your bag. The risk of injury from cabin baggage is incredibly high. To you it may just be one bag, but to us, 4 flights in a day, 180+ passengers each flight, bringing more cabin baggage than they should, playing Tetris & moving bags around in lockers to make them all fit means constant musculoskeletal strain. The “one” bag we lift may be the cause of a career-ending injury. If you can’t lift it, check it in. It’s not the end of the world.”
Another one commented, “It’s not about you or your pregnancy. Flight attendants aren’t supposed to help anyone with their bags because it’s an occupational hazard. These people are at work, and they need to look after their bodies. Ask a fellow traveler for help next time, and I’m sure you’ll have no problems.”
