Collin Gosselin is making headlines with his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. Collin exposed the abuse he endured at the hands of his former reality TV star mother, Kate Gosselin. On Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose, Collin elaborated on various aspects of his memoir and revealed when he last saw his mom.
Collin Gosselin last saw his mom, Kate Gosselin, at the age of 11
In the podcast, when Jay Shetty asked Collin about his last meeting with his mom, Kate, he narrated a traumatizing incident. According to Collin, four days before his 12th birthday, Kate sent him to a behavioral facility, and that was the last time he saw her.
He recalled the incident and revealed that Kate came home, threw him to the floor, and bound his wrists and ankles with zip ties while two nannies stood by and watched it. When Kate later clipped the ties off, she saw the marks left behind and handed him sweatpants and a long-sleeve shirt to cover the bruises.

When the paramedics arrived, she told them he was irrational and had run away. The incident dates back to 2016, and Collin was just 11. He is now 22, and he still hasn’t seen his mother. Recalling their last face-to-face encounter, Collin revealed:
“So they get me up, put me in the ambulance. I’m asking my mom, like, ‘Mommy, where am I going? Where am I going? What’s going on right now? Where am I going?’, and she’s just looking at me with a blank stare. They put me in the back of the ambulance. The last thing I see before the ambulance doors close in the bay there in the hospital is her face. That was the last time I saw my mom in person, at 11 years old. I’m 22 now, so it’s the last time I’ve seen her in person.”
On the podcast, Collin shared that he spent nearly 20 months inside the behavioral facility and had very limited contact with his family. Collin had no way to leave the facility. But somehow, he got to send a note to his father, Jon, from the facility, which read, “I’m counting on you to get me out of here. Daddy, I love you. Save me.” His dad, Jon, later took custody of Collin and his sister, Hannah.
Collin Gosselin’s abuse caught the attention of his teacher
Collin Gosselin is one of the six kids born to reality TV stars Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin. He rose to fame as a child on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8. In 2009, Jon and Kate announced their divorce, and after that Kate was granted custody of all eight kids. The family’s reality series was later renamed Kate Plus 8, focusing on Kate Gosselin’s life as a divorced mother raising the twins and sextuplets.
In an interview with ABC News’ Juju Chang, Collin detailed his abuse and claimed that after his parents’ divorce, his mother isolated him from his siblings and often locked him in a room in their basement. She would pull and drag him across the room by my ear, after which he would go to school the next day with a swollen ear.

He alleged that the abuse got so bad that it caught the attention of one of his teachers, who noticed his swollen earlobe. When Collin told his teacher about what happened, Kate got very upset and eventually pulled him out of school.
