ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly has revealed how she dropped four sizes in the space of a few months in 2026 as she talks about the moment she and her husband knew they both had to lose weight
Legendary television presenter Lorraine Kelly has spoken about what drove her to drop four dress sizes in 2026 as she opens up about the keys to her weight-loss success.
Lorraine, 66, has enjoyed a glittering media career, from appearing on Good Morning Britain to fronting her own self-titled show, which first aired in 2010.
Lorraine and her husband of 34 years, Steve Smith, decided to lose weight ahead of their daughter Rosie’s wedding in July. The couple share one child, 32-year-old Rosie, who tied the knot earlier this year.
Speaking to Closer about the moment she and Steve decided to take action, Lorraine said it was when he was trying to get into his kilt that they realised they had to do something.
She told the publication: “We both lost weight for the wedding. Because, back in April, we tried his kilt on and it wouldn’t fasten. I was chunky, I’d been comfort eating and that was a wake-up call. So we both really got onto it. We stopped boozing and the chocolate plate at night.”
Lorraine decided to take a range of measures in preparation for and following the wedding, including going on long walks, ditching unhealthy items from her diet and choosing bespoke gym classes.
She said: “What has helped the most is going to the gym twice a week and going for massive walks. We joined a local gym and started doing classes that are specifically for people over 60.”
Lorraine added: “I was a size 14 and now I’m back in a 10, which is really good for my health. I’ve got back my waist thanks to the exercising and walking.
“I do a lot of swimming as well. I’m always going to be somebody that’s got a wee bit of a tummy, because I’m a woman and we do have that. But thanks to all the exercise, I’ve definitely noticed a difference all over, really.”
This isn’t the only time Lorraine has talked about her health. In March this year, fans noticed she sounded hoarse, as if she had a sore throat, on her programme.
As a result of Lorraine’s worsening health, colleague Ben Shephard had to step in, but Lorraine was quick to reassure fans a few days later that she was on the mend.
In a post on Instagram, she said: “Hi there, I just want to say thanks for the get well wishes. I’m feeling a whole lot better.
“This has been a bad lurgy, if you’re going through it yourself, you have my sympathies. It’s a tough one. But I’m getting there. I will be off for a good few weeks, not because I’m not well, but because there’s been changes to the show and we now do 30 weeks a year.
“So, I won’t see you for a wee while but I want to thank you for sticking with me through all the changes and I hope to see you when I’m back on air.”
Lorraine subsequently returned to UK screens and was able to attend her daughter’s wedding over the summer.
