Man City captain Ruben Dias: We do what we do, we win

Ruben Dias says Manchester City will continue to win – and celebrate those victories – despite believing everyone else wants them to fail.

The City captain led from the front on Sunday with another superb display as his side cruised to a 3-0 success at Liverpool in the first game since the club were found guilty of breaching over 100 financial regulations.

City have appealed the verdict and an appeal is ongoing but the ruling from the Independent Commission has brought a wave of condemnation from across the football spectrum.

Dias accepts that has increased the levels of hostility towards City but insists it won’t distract the players from their objectives.

The Portugal defender said: “Yes, there’s a lot of noise, and it’s almost impossible to avoid seeing something – even us, being as private as we can be, and doing just our own lives. On your phone it’s impossible to avoid everything.

“But I feel like we’re all so very good at focusing on our job, doing it right, making the most of it, being happy every time we come to work, and our minds are very much there, and only there. It’s the things we can control, the things we’ve always been doing, and enjoying so much.

“We have full confidence in the club, we trust the club, and we love to win.”

We trust the club, says City skipper Dias

City faced a hostile atmosphere at Anfield, one that will be replicated up and down the country until the matter is closed, but Dias is confident the squad can shut out the distraction of what is going on off the field.

He added: “I feel like when you build yourself as a player, you build yourself against any kind of noise. So be it the one you just described [at Anfield], be it any other kind.

“Personally, and I really feel like I speak for the whole group: We’re very calm. We trust the club, we’re very calm, and we’re very focused on enjoying football. We know the team we’ve got, we want to make the most out of it, we want to win, and that’s the only thing in our minds.

“If there’s more or less noise, or whatever the reason the noise is, at the end of the day it’s the same as before because people don’t love us winning, and we love to win.

“We do what we do, we go on the pitch, we play football, and we win.”

‘Everyone at City is excited for PSG test’

City put their 100% record this season on the line on Wednesday night when two-time defending champions Paris Saint-Germain are the visitors in the Champions League.

“It’s a massive game, and I believe everyone is excited for it,” he said. “It will be a great time for us to feel ourselves at this level against the best team in Europe at the moment. We’re excited for the challenge, everyone is, the fans – I imagine they can’t wait to be there tomorrow just like us. I think it will be special.”
