Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte dies suddenly aged 34

A heartbreaking resurfaced clip shows RJ Mitte sharing his dying wish with his family a year before his sudden and tragic death.

Fans are still heartbroken following the news that the 34-year-old Walter White’s son in the smash hit series Breaking Bad, was found dead at his home in Brownsville, Texas. The actor heartbreakingly took his own life, his representative said in a statement as tributes to him poured in last night.

RJ, who also starred in the drama Time Share, the comedy Standing Up for Sunny, and the thriller The Oak Room, appeared on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast last November. He revealed some of the precious items that would be included in his will – including props he was allowed to take from the Breaking Bad set.

RJ lived with cerebral palsy, which was diagnosed at the age of three. Speaking about the memorabilia that he kept after filming came to an end, RJ said: “I kept my crutches, they’re pretty sick. I used those crutches for seven years straight, I thought about giving them, but I’d rather have them with me.

“I have an Eisenberg hat, pairs of underwear, and some of my clothes. The only thing I truly wanted after the show was my crutches, which was my big one grab. After the series, they were mine.”

But the will stipulates that his family can’t sell the memorabilia – and there were strict instructions in place. He said: “I’m one of these people, I tell my family it’s going to be in my will, no one’s allowed to sell my stuff after I’m dead. It’s going to be a little museum, I’m not here, but it’s all yours.”

During the interview, RJ said Breaking Bad’s success had left him facing a daunting challenge for the rest of his career. “I just want to top Breaking Bad, that’s the hardest,” he went on. “That is literally said, a bar for myself as a young man that is kind of unattainable. I tell people, ‘Look, it’s a long way down from the top of the mountain.”

In a statement last night, his spokesperson said: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte.

Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”
