VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh EAGLE (Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement) has reviewed the sale of rolling papers, hookah devices, pipes and other accessories through online e-commerce platforms, stressing the need for vigilance and appropriate legal action against products linked to narcotics offences.
An awareness meeting was held at the EAGLE office in Vijayawada on Tuesday under Inspector M. Ravindra, following directions from IGP Aake Ravikrishna, Operations SP K.M. Maheshwara Raju and Administration SP G. Swaroopa Rani.
Ravindra said products sold through platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Zepto, BigBasket and Blinkit required responsible scrutiny, as certain items could potentially be used to consume prohibited narcotics, including ganja and cocaine. He stressed the need to monitor their sale, supply and delivery.
He clarified that rolling papers and hookah devices were not illegal merely because they were available for sale. However, if evidence linked them to the consumption of prohibited narcotics or related offences, appropriate action would be taken under the applicable laws.
E-commerce companies were advised to review product listings, seller details and related activities to ensure compliance with legal requirements and platform policies.
The meeting emphasised the need to collect details of suspicious products, online sales links and supporting evidence. Participants were also urged to strengthen monitoring of suspicious sales, supply and delivery activities, coordinate with the authorities concerned and raise awareness of the health, social and legal consequences of drug abuse.
Ravindra urged the public to report information about drug trafficking, illegal supply and other suspicious narcotics-related activities through the AP EAGLE toll-free helpline, 1972. He called for coordinated efforts by the public, e-commerce companies and government departments to build a drug-free society.
Those present included RI Nagarjuna, Women SI S. Durgabhavani, RSI Murthy, Flipkart representative Tarun Venkatesh, Amazon representative Vankhuri Narender Reddy, legal adviser Poorvaka Ramesh, BigBasket area manager Sudhakar, Blinkit manager P. Surya and Zepto representative Vali Shaik.
