Cam Schlittler won’t find out if he wins the American League Cy Young Award for nearly another month.
But he made it clear after the Yankees’ season ended in a three-game sweep by the Rays in the ALDS last week that even if he ends up with the hardware — as is expected — it won’t be the lasting memory of this season.
“The personal stuff, whatever happens, that’s great,’’ Schlittler said of how he felt about his first full season in the majors after the Yankees were eliminated at Yankee Stadium. “But at the end of the day, I’d rather win a championship.”
While Schlittler is considered a virtual lock to beat out Toronto’s Dylan Cease in the Cy Young voting, the Yankees didn’t come close to ending a championship drought that dates to 2009.
