He left fans shocked after sharing an update about his personal life, claiming that he got married in secret two years ago. Not only that, during an interview with The Guardian, John also confessed that he is expecting his first child with his wife. John Boyega said he was not actively looking for romance
John Boyega opened up about his love life during a 2023 interview with Esquire. He claimed that finding a relationship is not something he dedicated much time to. In fact, he stated that he hadn’t even met anyone so far who ignited that spark in him. He said:
“I want a relationship, but I don’t fixate on it. I’m not opposed to it. I just haven’t met anyone that really ignites that in me.”
John also spoke about which love language he prefers the most. But instead of saying just one type, he said that he loves all of them. He explained:
“I’ve never understood there being a specific one. I mean, who likes touch without getting a gift once in a while? Who likes words of affirmation from someone that doesn’t actually touch? I’m willing to take as much as I can give.”
He said that in reality, he is actually a pretty chill and spontaneous guy. John Boyega also claimed that he’s a ‘softie.’ But at the same time, he revealed that he’s always curious about people, which leads him to create a space for honesty.
The Star Wars actor confessed that most of his life is mysterious in a way that “people do not know about me and how I roll, who I’m with, what I’m doing.” He clarified that he’s curious about people because of the work that they do rather than their personal business. John especially had no interest in whom the other person was dating.
However, when it comes to John Boyega’s own take on dating life, he told British GQ that he only ever dates Black women. Once that criterion is met, then it is about things like chemistry, personality, and goals. He looks for a synergy, such as whether he can help that person and if they can help him in return. John shared that he’s “very disciplined” in the type of women he speaks to. This is because he knew they didn’t want anyone in their business.
John Boyega said that he usually looks to his own parents, who have been together for over three decades, for inspiration. In his words:
“Being in the public eye, they would prefer if you had a wife and family. It’s the ultimate PR package. But my parents have been together for 35 years. There’s nothing that this world can do in terms of pressure to make me be inspired by anything else but my parents.”
John Boyega secretly tied the knot in an intimate wedding
In his interview with The Guardian, John Boyega said that he had a small wedding ceremony with his now-wife but wanted a larger celebration soon. He said that they have “been married for coming up two years now.” While speaking about their wedding ring, John said that their decision to get it was quite spontaneous and they went to Walmart to get it. But despite this, he said that “this is our very sentimental ring.”
John also revealed that he has a baby boy on the way and is the stepfather to his wife’s son. He said that it made his life feel complete and that he is fulfilled in terms of family.
