Meghan Markle will make her first official public appearance in the UK in more than four years tomorrow – but sources close to the Duchess say such engagements will be few and far between

Meghan still MIA from public life

Meghan Markle’s pseudo-royal engagements will be ‘relatively rare’ as she is focused on her lifestyle brand and rebooting her acting career, it is claimed.

Tomorrow, the Duchess of Sussex will join husband, Prince Harry, for her first official public appearance in the UK since the couple made a bombshell return to the country with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. They will travel to Nottingham, the scene of their first ever joint royal visit in 2017, for an away day – marking the duchess’s first UK engagement since the late Queen’s funeral in 2022.

Although the high-profile visit tomorrow is not an official royal visit – with a letter to Government stakeholders authorised by the King last month clarifying the Sussexes remain “private citizens” – they are likely to bear all the hallmarks of such.

The duke and duchess are said to consider themselves “public figures” and were caught off-guard by the letter outlining their position.

But a source close to Meghan has now said public appearances such as this will be “relatively rare” for the duchess, who is said to have “different professional priorities” to Harry.

Instead she is understood to be “reading a lot of scripts” as well as focusing on her family, lifestyle brand and rebooting her acting career.

A source told The Telegraph: “Prince Harry’s priority is his philanthropic work and public service. Her focus is on her family and children, followed by her business, followed by rebooting her acting career. Her public appearances will be relatively rare. She is reading a lot of scripts at the moment.”

They added that if Meghan had time left, she would do “some charity work”, adding “she’s not a working royal” but a full-time mother and entrepreneur.

Harry and Meghan will make three appearances in Nottingham tomorrow. The couple, who settled back in England in August after quitting the working monarchy and moving to the US six years ago, will spend time at the Community Recording Studio (CRS), the food poverty community action group Himmah Hub, and Epic Partners, which supports young people through sports programmes and mentoring.

It comes as rumours have abounded as to how former Suits star Meghan would spend her time, with speculation she was in talks for a role in the hit Netflix show The Gentlemen.

The show is about a British Duke who unexpectedly inherits his father’s country estate and discovers it is home to a cannabis empire run by notorious criminals. It is believed Meghan met film director Ritchie, who was formerly married to Madonna, through mutual acquaintances.

Meanwhile, her former agent Ari Emanuel has teased some of the projects he believes are in the pipeline for Meghan, who is still represented by his WME talent agency.

He said: “I think she’s actually getting booked and there’s reality stuff and TV stuff. They’re doing stuff. I don’t know about it. She is finding her voice – I am happy for her.”

Tomorrow’s visit also comes as the couple waiting to hear whether they will be granted taxpayer-funded security, with Harry said to fear a delay after Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced a review of security measures for the royal family and public figures in the wake of the death of Reform UK’s justice spokeswoman Ann Widdecombe.

The Sussexes pulled their children out of their first British school in September after just two days, when heavy traffic in the area meant their private security team struggled to stay in a convoy during the school run.

Their team then criticised the “extraordinarily reckless” international paparazzi who were spotted looking into the grounds and monitoring children at the youngsters’ new school.
