Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino believes the Gunners have what it takes to win both the Premier League and Champions League this season after narrowly missing out on European glory last term.
The Gunners ended their 22-year wait for a league title last term but suffered heartbreak in Europe, losing the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
Mikel Arteta’s side have made an impressive start to their title defence, winning nine of their opening 10 matches in all competitions.
Their only defeat came in a surprise 3-0 loss at Brighton, leaving them three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League standings.
However, Arsenal have maintained their remarkable European form, beating Lille on Tuesday to secure a 14th consecutive victory in the Champions League group stage.
Merino backs Arsenal to win everything
Speaking after the victory over Lille, Merino insisted Arsenal have the mentality and quality required to compete for every major trophy.
“It is an absolutely unbelievable run,” the Spain international said.
“We know that we’re making history.
“At the same time, we know how difficult it is to win games, so we give a lot of value and credit to the team for what we’re doing.
“The goal and objective is to win the Champions League, to win the Premier League, to win everything. That’s what the manager wants. That’s what the fans want. That’s what we as players want, too.
“We were so, so close last season. That proved to us that we are ready for it. Now it’s about details. It’s about being present and ready in the right moments, and of course we believe that.”
