Jane Fallon has revealed she is “completely recovered” from breast cancer but still has to deal with the extreme tiredness that comes with the medication she has been prescribed post-treatment

Jane Fallon has revealed she is “completely recovered” from breast cancer. The author, 65, who has been in a relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than 40 years, was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in December 2025 following a routine mammogram and announced the news a few months later.

On Wednesday, Jane took to social media following a night out at a showbiz event and revealed that whilst she is “recovered” from breast cancer now, she still had to leave early in order to deal with the extreme tiredness that comes with taking tamoxifen.

The drug is often prescribed after surgery and radiation to kill any remaining cancer cells and reduce the chance of the cancer coming back.

Alongside a selfie with her cat Pickle, wrote on X: “And now I’m home wondering if I can eat a Huel vegan Mac & cheese in bed with Pickle. Thoroughly lovely evening with a roomful of fabulous women.”

She added: “Thank you to Hello Mag for including me. And @emmaplater4 for being my plus one. And @emmasleon for fabulous make up.

“Even though I’m completely recovered now the one main side effect of the tamoxifen so far seems to be exhaustion and a need to fall asleep out of the blue, so I sneaked home before I disgraced myself by being found snoring in a corner.”

In March, Jane who has sold more than two million books in the UK and is behind novels such as Just Got Real and Getting Rid of Matthew, first revealed news of her diagnosis publicly.

Updating fans online, she wrote: “So… I thought I should post something as I’ve had a few people notice I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately. About a month ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer – very early stage thankfully & the prognosis is excellent.

“I had a routine mammogram a week before Christmas. I had no symptoms but the brilliant radiographer spotted something iffy & sent me for further tests & eventually a biopsy.

“Since then I’ve had more mammograms, more biopsies and an MRI so they can pinpoint the problem area precisely. It’s been a lot, I’m not going to lie. But, my surgery is scheduled for the week after next and I just want to get it over with now.

“I’m getting incredible care and all will be fine but I’m not engaging with much beyond audiobooks & jigsaws tbh. Dr Eric on duty. Nurse Pickle wondering when lunch is.”

Author Jane has been with Ricky, best known for his starring roles in The Office and Afterlife, since 1982. As well as her successful writing career, she has also worked as a TV producer, including on EastEnders, Teachers and This Life amongst other shows.

Speaking about their early careers on a recent podcast, she said: “I was always saying: ‘I’m going to get us out of this. I’m going to work my way out of this.’ I felt as though I was on the rung of the ladder I wanted to be on. I knew that once I got a proper road into TV, that would be something I loved and could make a career around.

“Ricky didn’t really know what he wanted to do at that point; he was just pleased for me because I was helping us get out of the ditch we were in. And then when he did what he did, there was no jealousy. My career was helpful because he wasn’t entering this alien, glamorous world – I knew that TV was a hard slog.”
