When Salman appeared on Koffee With Karan in 2013, host Karan Johar asked him about his plans to get married. Salman revealed that he wasn’t looking for a partner because he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship. Salman further shed light on his almost-marriage with Sangeeta and said:
“There was a time that I really wanted to get married, and then it just didn’t work out. I have always come so close. People have got cold feet. ‘Theek hai, boyfriend, isko zindagi bhar jhelna padega kya. With Sangeeta, even the cards were printed.”
For the unversed, Sangeeta and Salman dated from 1986 to 1994. The duo was so serious that they planned their wedding for May 27, 1994. However, days before the wedding, Sangeeta reportedly caught Salman at an apartment with actress Somy Ali and called off the wedding. Despite their broken engagement, the two are close friends.
When Salman spoke about his broken marriage with Sangeeta on Koffee with Karan, the host asked whether he was ‘caught’, which led to the marriage being called off. The actor initially admitted, ‘Yeah, kind of’. However, he quickly changed his statement and said:
“What? What are you talking about?” I don’t get caught often. I lie nowadays. I just deny the whole thing. I just lie. I also tell people that if you don’t want to get into a relationship with me, don’t. I am not ready for any kind of relationship, serious commitments, and all that stuff right now.”

When Sangeeta Bijlani graced the reality show Indian Idol 15 as a guest, one of the contestants asked her about rumors of her wedding to Salman. The contestant also asked the stunning actress whether the reports about their printed wedding cards were true, and Sangeeta said, ‘Jhoot toh nahi tha’. The response shocked everyone, but the actress didn’t elaborate further.
